GTX 1050 Ti with Optiplex 7040 Mini Tower
Hi,
I am new to Dell community.
I bought a new Optiplex 7040 Mini Tower. I need a high end gpu for my
3d rendering. Currently I have an AMD Radeon R5 340x (OEM) installed
in it. I am planning to install NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 TI.
Is this product compatible with my system?
Thank You.

7040 MT requires Adapter cable and EPS12v power supply. MODDIY CAB359 cable or equivalent.
This is not however supported by Dell.

Someone has already tried this and it works.

EVGA Super nova 700B1 or 750B1 works fine.

I already put a zotak 1050 ti oc in my dell optiplex 7040 which has only a 240 watt psu and working very well indeed. There were many who advised me to go for the 750 ti but i tried and have been running triple a games in high settings inn 1080 p without any problems.

Hi Raghu1015,
Thanks for posting.
The Optiplex 7040 supports the following graphics cards: GForce 745 (MT Only) AMD Radeon R7 350X, and R5 340X. The GTX 1050 ti, may work if the stock power supply can handle it.

Hi Dell-RobertP,
Thanks for quick reply.
The power supply in my MT is only 240w It has i7, DVD RW, and 1TB hdd and Radeon R5 340x. I use optical drive only for making data dvd once in a month or so.
Is it possible to upgrade the psu for Optiplex 7040 MT with third party psu without damaging the system. I dont think Dell makes higher PSU for this system.
Thank You,
Raghu1015

Hi SpeedStep,
Thanks for the information. MODDIY CAB359 like connectors not available in India. Changing the power supply may affect the warranty.
I found this on Dell website:

I dont know which Dell system supports this card.
Thank You.

Hi SpeedStep,
Thanks for information. It will affect the warranty from Dell?
I found a PNY Geforce GTX 1050Ti on Dell US website. It recommends 300w power supply.
I wonder which Dell system uses it!.
Thank You,
Raghu1015

Hi SpeedStep,
Thanks for the information.
MODDIY CAB359 cable or equivalent converter cable not available in India. Adding third party psu may affect the warranty. I found this product on the Dell website:
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
It also says required power supply 300w. I don't know which dell system is compatible with this gpu.
Thank You,
