Connect a second monitor

I am trying to connect a second  Dell monitor to my "AIO Inspiron 2350". I am using a "VGA to HDMI" cable and testing "HDMI In" and "HDMI Out" but NO success, Inspiron does not detect the second monitor.

Hi "SpeedStep", "Chris",

Got it !!!

When I put the second monitor "active", audio signal dissapears because audio "moves" to second monitor. I was able to notice that because in "Sound panel" appears the second monitor in addition to normal option of "Speakers".

Selecting again "Speakers" and making it -default-, audio moves again to Inspiron 2350 and everything is right again.

The problem was that I tried to guess the issue having second monitor "inactive" and in this case, there is NO new entry in "Sound panel" so I was not able to see how audio moved to second monitor. When I disconnect the second monitor, that entry dissapears completely.

Issue solved, thank you very much.

#4 is the HDMI out port.

Sounds like the VGA to HDMI cable is the culprit. Link to the cable you bought.

AIO Inspiron 2350 HDMI out port --> HDMI to VGA adapter --> VGA to VGA cable --> Monitor VGA in

Is there another monitor with HDMI in port there to test this =

AIO Inspiron 2350 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> Monitor HDMI in port

Thanks Chris.

I bought cable in Amazon so I have no way to check it.

Dell Monitor is model "1907FPt" and I have it since 2005. It has a "DVI-D Single link" and a "VGA" (labeled D-SUB) connections, NO "HDMI" connection.

May be, I could return this cable to Amazon and to buy a "DVI-D to HDMI" or, perhaps, your suggestion "HDMI to VGA adapter" plus VGA to VGA Monitor in.

I would appreciate your comments

Can you provide the Amazon link to the cable?

Chris,

I've sent several messages with "amazon links" (up to 3 in last 5 hours) but I always receive the message that "a moderator will review them before posting publicity" and I don't see messages public, so there is nothing more I can do, by now.

All links are moderated before they go live. I checked them. I think you should try the one I linked.

Hi Chris,

I already received the new connectors and ... it runs ok, I can now see extended the second monitor.

But, nothing is perfect in life; everytime I connect the second monitor I loss the "audio" signal from Inspiron 2350. Any suggestion?

Thanks and best regards,

Hi again Chris,

A "HDMI -> DVI-D" connection would allow to see the second monitor and to listen the audio?

Thanks,

There are no audio signals on DVI so the answer is NO not Ever.

"SpeedStep", thank you very much for your reply.

I am not an expert on hardware issues and your answer clarify things.

My current situation is:

I have a second monitor with "DVI-D" and "VGA"  possible connections.

If I connect second monitor from "Inspiron 2350" thru "HDMI -> VGA" I am able to see the second monitor BUT I loss the audio signal.

So, as summary ...

if I want to use the second monitor thru VGA, I will not have audio in my Inspiron.

If I want to use a second monitor and have audio, I should buy another monitor with HDMI, in order to connect HDMI (Inspiron) --> HDMI (new monitor).

Are my assumptions right?
