HTC VIVE Compatible?
Hi there,
I have a Alienware 17R2 laptop with:
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 980M with 4GB GDDR5
and
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6820HK (Quad-Core, 8MB Cache, Dynamically Overclocked up to 4.1GHz) in it.
I'm very interested in purchasing an HTC Vive and am wondering if this laptop is capable of running it. And if not, is there something I can purchase that will make it compatible - other than purchasing a desktop.
I've been looking at the Graphics Amplifier, Aurora, and the Area 51, but I'm confused about it all.
Thank so much in advance for any help you can offer.

The Vive website only list our Alienware Desktops. But based on the specifications listed for Vive =
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent or greater
CPU: Intel i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 equivalent or greater
RAM: 4GB+
Video Output: HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 or newer
USB Port: 1x USB 2.0 or greater port
Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 or newer
The 17-R2 exceeds them. So adding the AGA with the GeForce GTX 970 or better, you should be able to run Vive. But to be sure, you should contact them.

Thanks so much. I've written them an email since no one is answering the chat. I do greatly appreciate your help since I was going bonkers trying to find out things. lol.
I was thinking of getting the GTX 1080. Would that be okay instead of the 970?

The 1080 is vastly superior.
