Linux Mint 13 on Dell Inspiron 3521??

Hello everyone!

I bought Dell Inspiron 3521 notebook with Intel Pentium Dual Core 2127U with HD VGA, Ivy Bridge, Intel HM76 Express, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB HDD, Intel® HD Graphics last week.

It had preinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 oem on it and works perfectly. However since person who will use it is accustomed to Win XP and Win 7 I thought that installing Linux Mint would be a better choice for her and I did so. Unfortunately LM 13 does not work by itself, I have graphics problems which cause problem and make system non functional, and it obviously because it lacks drivers included in Ubuntu oem version. I have restored Ubuntu oem back however I wonder if there is a chance I can get  LM functioning on this laptop or am I stuck with Ubuntu for good? Is there perhaps a LM oem version for this laptop available or could one somehow build it by using drivers included on the Ubuntu Dell restore disc and how exactly could one pull it off?

LM 13 is equivalent to Ubuntu but you will probably need to update the hardware support stack yourself.

More information here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack

The version of Ubuntu shipped with your laptop is probably already configured with the right stack. Otherwise, there is no reason why Mint would not work whilst Ubuntu would.

Other option is to used the latest version of Linux Mint (with Cinnamon 2.0 which is a huge improvement).

Mint 16 works perfectly on this laptop as far as I can tell. I had to to set up wireless properly (download drivers and enable it) but everything else works out-of -the-box.
