Dell XPS 8300 and Linux Compatibility
Hi,
I've been offered a Dell 'XPS 8300' Desktop at work to replace my faithful but limited Optiplex. I need to know if the hardware is supported by Linux.
I've checked places like the Ubuntu Hardware Certification site and the Dell Linux wiki, but the XPS 8300 seems too new to be mentioned on either of those sites. I can't risk ordering the system until I know for sure that I can run Linux on it.
- Has anyone had any success installing any distro on a 'XPS 8300' system?
- Could anyone suggest some obvious potential problems with running Linux on this system?
Thanks loads for any help!
Jamie

Thanks so much for your help! That's basically 90% confirmed that I'll get the machine.
One more thing: Don't suppose anyone knows whether the BIOS has an option for disabling the integrated graphics? I plan to order a nVidia card with this machine and I need to know that I can use the nVidia binary driver with X. I know this should work - but I'd rest easier if I knew 100%.
Thanks again anyway. :-)

No problem Linux works with all PC (Windows) hardware. It is not mentioned because they figure that you already know it. Watch out if you put Linux on a Laptop that powerful, your page might jump off of the screen and Geekbench about 8000.
