Dell Latitude E6520 CPU Upgrade

my brother got dell latitude E6520 and want to upgrade
can he upgrade from the current CPU : i5-2540M

to i7-3632QM or i7-3840QM

The system firmware does not, and was never updated to support the Sandy Bridge CPU. Unless you have the means to write your own firmware, the system will simply fail to boot if you install a third generation CPU.

A working E6530 system is worth between $20 and $50, so it's not worth a major investment of time to compile your own firmware even if you can do that.

No.  If you want a third-gen CPU, replace the system with an E6530.

@ejn63​ by using CPU-Z i found out the socket is rPGA988B and the chipset is Intel QM67 so it should support third-gen CPU
