Newly installed SATA SSD detected in BIOS but not Windows.

My new SATA ssd isn't getting detected in windows at all although it is getting detected in the BIOS. I have the Insyde H20 BIOS which is by far the worst BIOS I have ever used and it does not give me an option to enable OR disable the ssd.

When I installed my SSD, the usb ports stopped working on windows. I couldn't even see the ATAPI drivers. I contacted dell support for this but they told me to check with the manufacturer of the ssd. The manufacturer hasn't responded yet.

P.S: I have returned the ssd and even gotten a new one but the same problems still occur. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

If you have not done so, connect an external to your PC/laptop and copy all user file folders to save one backup.  Click on Windows menu, go to all apps, select Windows Backup.  Save Folders as second backup to your account One Drive.

There are many websites offer you with different methods, ways to install Windows.  Review this blog, which offers 6 different ways  https://pureinfotech.com/clean-install-windows-11/.  Clean install using USB created by Windows Creation Tool is suggested.

Did you partition and format the drive?  Until that's done, Windows will not see it.

@ejn63 Sadly, there is no option for me to do that in disk management.

Specific Inspiron model may help with system specs and documentation research.  BIOS settings for storage controller could also cause the visibility of storage behind RAID controller.  Without knowing the current settings, advise to change boot mode or SATA operation mode may render unbootable system.

What is the current settings for SATA operation mode in BIOS?

What is the intend use for the new SATA SSD?  Additional storage or replacement of boot drive?

@Chino de Oro hi. on the BIOS, the SATA operation is set to AHCI and also it can not be changed. There is no other option in that setting. Also, I intend to use the ssd for extra storage. Thanks.

What model Inspiron (3593, 7779, etc.)? Is there an administrator password on the system setup?

If you have made any change to BIOS settings, restore to optimal defaults.

Open command prompt as administrator and run diskpart.  then type list disk.  Let us know if you see the newly added SATA SSD in the list.  You can exit twice to close.

@Chino de Oro I already did that but it sis not work either. I also tried updating the BIOS which was successful but it did not help.

What does not work?  You could not run diskpart?  What type of error?

@Chino de Oro So nor can I see the physical drive in the device manager, nor can i see any disk in diskpart. Also, there are some errors in the PCI to PCI Bridge drivers and usb drivers on device manager. Also, there is no driver for ATAPI or SATA . I read somewhere that the best bet would be to reinstall windows. Shall I try that instead? Because this is sure getting frustrating.

To add to all of this, the search bar has also stopped working and the brightness slider in the taskbar menu is not visible. Im really starting to consider swithcing to linux.

Is the new drive mounted internally, or externally?  You first said the BIOS recognized the drive.  Is it?  If it's a hard drive, is it in fact spinning?

@ejn63 It is an SSD mounted internally. I have no idea why it is not working. It is said to be plug and play.

Make sure it's firmly connected to the mainboard -- SSDs tend to be slimmer than the hard drive the system is designed for.  You may need a spacer to make sure it's properly connected to the mainboard.

Did the system come with the cable to connect the drive to the mainboard, or did you purchase one separately -- and if you purchased it, is it an OEM cable?

@ejn63 I followed this video, hopefully it could give you the details you needed. I haven't done anything extra apart from the tutorial.

you can start the video from 7:40 for the SATA installation.

Thanks.
