Laptop not performing after most recent firmware update.

Dell G15 5530

Dell G15 5530

Hello,

I've updated my firmware to 1.14.0 on the 25/4/24, and since have been having very noticeable FPS issues while gaming. Frames have dropped from a steady 120fps to consistent 40fps in Path of Exile while in town for instance. Same can be said for when I play Elden Ring, 60fps to now 20fps.

I've updated my graphics card and now it randomly performs as per normal for brief periods of time before going back to stuttering and fps drops for a period of time also. I've also noticed that while performance has dropped, the fan speed also drop.

Yesterday, I have formatted the laptop in the hopes that it'll fix it. Still experiencing the same as above. Has anyone encountered this issue? Also, any idea's on how to fix this?

Specs are:

i5-13450HX 2.4GHz

RTX 3050 6GBs

16GBs RAM

10 Elder

Always include exact PC model in your posts.

If you have an NVidia GPU and NVidia Control Panel loads at boot, open it and click Manage 3D Settings in left pane. Then scroll down right pane to Power Management Mode, and change that to Prefer Max Performance.  Exit NCP and reboot. Does that help?

If not, navigate to Windows Advanced Power Options screen. On that screen, set it to Max Performance at the top. Then disable these: Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend and PCI Express Link State Management. Save the changes and reboot. Does that help?

If not, and assuming you have the latest BIOS (1.19.0) for G15 5530, you could try downgrading BIOS back to a previous version where fps were good.  The previous version for G15 5530 is 1.18.0.

If you need BIOS for a different PC. or another version for this model, go to support page for the specific G5 model and look on Drivers/Download tab for System Firmware, and click the link to older versions. Download a prior version onto an empty USB stick and follow installation instructions for Updating the BIOS from BIOS Boot Menu (independent of operating system).

===UPDATE=== 2/5/23

I've contacted helpdesk at Dell on this website, however no resolution. FPS and performance drops at random periods on this gaming laptop. If someone please could assist, as I enjoyed my experience with this laptop up until this point. I've owned this Laptop since December 2023, so it has not been a year yet.

Guys, after a lot of searching and testing, I finally discovered that in my case, the problem was with the 1.19.0 version of the BIOS. After I installed it, I started having performance issues in games, freezes, and all that. I found other people with the same problem while searching online until I came across a video of a guy on YouTube talking about this BIOS and how he downgraded to version 1.18.0, which solved the issues.

I downgraded to version 1.18.0 on my machine, and everything went back to normal. Game performance returned to normal, and everything is running smoothly. I recommend you try this too.. it worked great for me.
