Intel Extension 2.1.10105.19 keeps reinstalling on 16" Inspiron 7640 2-in-1
Ever since my laptop updated to Windows 11 25H2, I've noticed that the driver "Intel - Extension 2.1.10105.19" keeps reinstalling every time I run Windows Update. I don't have this problem with my Dell XPS desktop or my work HP OmniBook Ultra.
Is this a known problem with this Dell Laptop model?

I believe this problem has been resolved for my 16" Inspiron 7640 2-in-1.
Over a month ago I upgraded the OS on my laptop from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro. Since then, I have run Windows Updates at least 3 times successfully without it downloading the driver "Intel - Extension 2.1.10105.19" or any other Intel drivers repeatedly . Also, before running Windows Update I made sure no driver, including "Intel - Extension 2.1.10105.19", was hidden by the wushowhide.diagcab.
I don't know for certain if or how upgrading my laptop to Windows 11 Pro affected this problem. But, for now I am considering this resolved for me.
@DELL-Nat M I understand that some others may still have this problem. So, I will leave the status of this Discussion unresolved. You or anyone else, please feel free to mark this resolved once a final resolution is found. Thank you very much for your assistance.

WARNING TO EVERYONE: I just installed win 11 24H2 "repair" update from win update - microsoft claimed it was to fix the win update problems which I assumed (incorrectly) that it was the intel update fix - DO NOT INSTALL THIS !!
Because if you were running 24H2 and had successfully hidden the problem intel updates, when you install this "repair" version (2/11/2/2026) this update REMOVES THE HIDE and the intel update immediately reappeared when i ran win update. This repair version of 24H2 claimed it was to "FIX" the win update problems so like the fool that I am I believed them. Now i have the intel extension 2.1.10103.18 all over again ! I ran the wushowhide tool and it did not see this so as before I am unable to hide it.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. we’ve escalated the issue, but our engineering team has requested a screenshot or short video showing the reinstall loop or any error message. This will help us speed up the investigation and work toward a fix.

Thanks, @DELL-Nat M
What happens is every time I run Windows Update, the driver "Intel - Extension 2.1.10105.19", is downloaded and installed. I am then prompted to Restart my PC and it restarts successfully. When I check the Windows Update History immediately afterwards, it shows the driver "Intel - Extension 2.1.10105.19" was installed successfully.
But, if I run Windows Update again, it will again download and install the driver "Intel - Extension 2.1.10105.19", restart my PC and do the same thing over and over. I have some screen captures that I'll attach below.
First screen shot shows Driver was successfully installed on 10/23/2025:
Second screen shot shows Windows Update downloading and installing driver on 10/24/2025:
Third Screen Shot shows driver was successfully installed on 10/24/2025:
Last screen shot shows Windows Update downloading and installing driver again:
Hope this helps. If there's anything else you want, let me know.

@TheRoots I have exactly the same problem. Contacted Dell support and all the could come up with was wanting to send me a new ssd and for me4 to install it myself. Refused to deo that so they said they would send an engineer out change the ssd.
Refused that because its NOT a hard disc problem. No bloody help at all

@DELL-Nat M
Just to clarify, I am not using a dock when running Windows Update. Also, Windows Update doesn't report any other updates available or pending. Dell Support Assist doesn't report any updates available/pending. Dell Support Assist doesn't show any errors when running Scan Hardware either. Lastly, I have Dell BIOS 1.16.0 installed. Hope this helps.

For what its worth you can hide the update so that it does not keep downloading. Use thus link
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab
Worked for me on my xps16
No more continual installs

@dickelliott Thanks, but this same error has been reported before. I would think Dell will want to fix it eventually.

Be nice if Dell can fix it but I’m doubtful after them telling me the fix was to install a new ssd, you gotta laugh at that one though

Well... I've paused Windows update for a week. If the problem isn't fixed, I guess I'll use the wushowhide.diagcab solution...

@Larry B from CT , I posted this 3 days ago and haven't done anything yet. @DELL-Nat M said the Dell Engineering team is looking into it, so I'm going to wait and see what they come up with first. If you haven't already, I would suggest you go up to the top and click the link that you have the same problem. Maybe that will escalate the problem and get quicker attention.

@TheRoots This is Larry, a supervisor called me back from Dell and fixed the problem in 10 mins. The Intel - Extension - 2.1.10105.19 is a problem it is from Microsoft from what Dell said. He fixed the problem to never come up again..
I was still in warranty so it was no charge, I guess you can go to YouTube for help with this problem it is worth a try or go to Microsoft for help with this matter.
