Inspiron laptop only works while plugged in to my AC adapter. Constantly says 0% battery and dies the moment I unplug it.
Basically what’s in the title. Was wondering if this is an adapter issue or battery or circuitry. I enter the BIOS setup page and under batter all that is listed is “AC Adapter: Not Installed” not exactly sure what this means, would this mean I need a new ac adapter?

If the AC adapter is still not recognized by the system, yes -- the adapter is next. Make sure you purchase an OEM adapter.
If neither the jack nor the adapter solves the problem, the mainboard is bad.

An additional detail,
the indicator for charging blinks white once then orange 5? Times in rapid succession.

Also, there is slight damages to the port where the ac adapter plugs in to, but this only ever caused the cable to fall out easily, the not charging ordeal is a newer development

AC adapter not installed means the battery will never charge. In the absence of specifics, if you're looking to repair the system, start with a replacement DC jack, assuming the model you have has a replaceable jack.
If you need more guidance, you'll need to supply at least the full model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 3593, etc.).

@ejn63
I finally got around to replacing the dc port, I no longer have issues with it unplugging easily, but I still am unable to successfully charge my laptop. Would the next step be to replace the ac adapter?

@ejn63 ac adapter replaced and it works great! Thanks for all your help, only thing that could’ve gone smoother is if dell didn’t take 3 weeks to ship me a charger :(
