Inspiron 7706 2-in-1, touchpad not functioning

Help - I'm pulling my hair out and have about had it with Dell "support."

The touchpad on my WIN11 machine began operating erratically a few weeks ago. Working, freezing, working, disappearing, etc. Now it has quit working entirely - no pointer, no clicking, no anything. Dell reports the ancient driver in use is up to date. I've deleted it twice and restarted machine - ending back at square one with nothing.

I've spent four hours today alone wading through "help" and gotten nowhere. Dell would love to force feed me a new machine - however I need neither a new machine or a warranty for this one. Thanks in advance - I hope someone out there can help.

@ejn63 Yes machine is out of warranty. I'll have somebody look at it.  Thanks -

What model Inspiron?  3501, 5593, etc.?

And have you remove the base cover to check the condition of the battery?

Hi - the machine is a 7706 and I literally just replaced battery with an OEM one. The problems preceded battery replacement.

Was the original battery swollen before you replaced it?

No, the battery was just fine except for being worn out from use. I'm now even more perturbed at Dell for wanting to force me to use the machine that has the problem to communicate with.

It's time to check the cable and connection between the touchpad and the mainboard.  The service manual is linked below.

It's unlikely the system is under warranty as it is 5-6 years old at this point.  If you're not comfortable disassembling the system, a local shop can handle that just as well as Dell can.
