Dell G15 5515 - Added a 2TB nvme..cloned the 512 to it....still boots from the 512 (swapped nvme locations)

On the Dell G15 5515, I upgraded to 32GB and....

Cloned the working 512 nvme to a 2TB nvme

Installed the 2TB where the 512 was

Installed the 512 in the empty nvme slot

Does not boot to the 2TB. Boots to the 512

Bios does not see the 2TB as a bootable drive.

Help Cecil help!

What version of Ghost are you using?  Norton/Symantec Ghost went end of life a decade ago.

You should not need to format the drive at all -- the cloning utility should handle that.  Give the free version of Macrium Reflect a try.

Redo the cloning procedure, making sure that the first boot after cloning is done with ONLY the new drive present.  If you boot the system with both drives installed, the system will always default to the original drive.

You must allow the system to boot from the newly cloned drive once before you can reconnect the original drive to the system.

Thank you VERY much!! Ahhhhhhhhh...the plot thickens....so, I'll ghost the 512 over to the 2TB again and then remove the 512 and cold boot with only the 2TB? Does it matter which slot the 2TB is in? Hmmmm.....hopefully the 2TB will show now as a bootable drive because it did not before. Makes sense>?

If you can move the new drive to the slot the original boot drive occupied, that's the better idea.  On some systems you can't do that depending on the physical size of the drive.

Question......format as NTFS or exfat, via Ghost?......last time I formatted as NTFS and it did not create a  bootable drive in the G15 5515. ty.

I must have incorrect "options" settings in Ghost...as it's not cloning the drive because it's still a non-bootable drive...woe is me.
