Dell After Reset, Files not backed up

Inspiron 7415 2-in-1

Inspiron 7415 2-in-1

I have used Dell SupportAssist OS on boot, to reset my system. I chose option to back up files, I'm unable to retrieve those files now.

It just says your files have been retrieved. I tried to view backup files, which have all the names of the backed up files, but can't find those files or see its content. I tried to see the windows.old folder in C: drive. When I tried to Visit C:\windows.old\users\Anay\Documents, there is just one folder, Dell, which doesn't have any useful content.

I tried contacting dell support, who told me to visit a dell authorized service centre, they'll help to locate the files, and service centre said, if the files were retrieved, it'll be there, and they can't help further.

If you have performed a reset on your Dell laptop and did not back up your files beforehand, the reset process likely restored the laptop to its factory settings, which would have removed all user data and files from the device. Unfortunately, once the reset is complete, the data that was not backed up is typically irrecoverable.

To avoid data loss in the future, it's essential to back up your files regularly. Here are some best practices for data backup:

  1. External Storage: Use external storage devices such as USB flash drives or external hard drives to manually copy and store important files regularly.

  2. Cloud Backup: Utilize cloud storage services like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive to save your files online. This way, you can access them from any device and have an additional copy for backup.

  3. Backup Software: Consider using backup software that automates the process of backing up your files regularly to an external drive or cloud storage.

  4. Network Attached Storage (NAS): Set up a NAS device on your home network to store and back up files from multiple devices.

  5. Windows File History (Windows): Use the built-in Windows File History feature to automatically back up your files to an external drive.

  6. Time Machine (macOS): On macOS, use Time Machine to automatically back up your files to an external drive.

Remember to keep multiple copies of your important data in different locations to ensure its safety in case of hardware failure, theft, or other unforeseen events.

While it's unfortunate that the files were not backed up before the reset, it's a valuable lesson for the future to prioritize regular backups to avoid data loss. If any of the data was especially critical, you might want to consult with data recovery professionals to explore if there are any options for recovering the lost files. However, data recovery can be expensive and is not always guaranteed to be successful, so it's best to make regular backups a part of your routine to avoid such situations.

So does that means its backed up or not?

I had the backup of most important files in a hard drive, I just need 1 folder(Not that important), which I forgot to backup.

Anyways, Thank you!
