Typical for these models was the zig zag recovery partition, XP CD either Home or PRO,  Roxio Creator,  WINDVD, or Cyberlogic Power DVD,  Resource CD;  In 2006 they changed to No more disks with a Norton Ghost recovery partition and a paper picture of DELL CD saying you don't need disks.

The DSR reverts the hard drive to it's factory condition, therefore MBR remains the same. for more info, read the following,

The DSR does have an achilles' heel, when the hard drive fails, you have lost the feature. If you don't have the Dell XP reinstallation CDs, then you will have to find the Media on your own because XP VISTA 7 8 and soon 10 is EOL EOS.  End of Life End of Support.  In 2025 once its gone you can NEVER Download the ISO again.

The 5100 comes with Windows XP preinstalled. This is a VERY old machine. Stock ram was 1 or 2 gigs.

Single core Pentium 4 and 3.25 gigs ram max.

Ubuntu LTS 20.04.2 works fine on these models as does WIN7, WIN8, WIN10.

Not supported doesn't mean not working.  HOWEVER being 15 years old means that if you try to upgrade DDR2, Dual Core CPU and modern GPU etc it will still be incredibly slow.

@Slim Jim  We had an old Inspiron 530 from April 2008 that came with XP.  And honestly, there was not much in the way of pre-installed apps other than the usual Dell support stuff, Cyberlink DVD player, and maybe the McAfee anti-virus stuff.  I just remember uninstalling only a few apps but left the DVD player on it at the time.

Ah, yes, I remember all of those discs.  I still have some of those, including the Win XP disc... boxed up somewhere.
