Opticaldrive burn issues

I can no longer burn discs since the upgrade to Win 11.
I keep getting a medium error message using 3 different
burning software.
Ashampoo
NCH Express
Windows media

I use Verbatim discs and also bought a Verbatim external
cd writer and still get the same error message!!!

Called Dell support, they did a remote scan and all and suggested that i do a system restore back win 10.
Not sure what to do.
Do u have any suggestions?
Thank You,
Gary

What model PC? Always include the PC model number on any initial problem post.

What are you trying to burn? Data? Music? (MP3 or regular music CD)

The same optical device drivers in Win 10 and 11 (actually the same since Win 7).

Have you tried a different brand/batch of CD-R blanks?  (Don't use RW discs, they can be problematic).

I saw a similar burning problem posted on tenforums.com, is that yours?

I have no problem burning CD's on my system that was upgraded to Win 11.  Works exactly the same in Win 11 as Win 10.  Using same (2019 version) NERO software.  I do a lot of CD-R music disc burning for my recording studio clients.

You didn't answer my question, what type of CD are you trying to burn? CD-R or CD-RW and what are you burning? Data? Music? MP3 Music? Best not to use RW discs as they can be problem.

"Medium burning error" sounds more like defective CD-R blanks.  Especially since you get that error on two different drives.  Do you have any from a different brand or batch to try?

I like "CDBurnerXP for a free CD burning program.

I use Inkjet printable Verbatim and so far no problem, but get some new ones and then try to burn.

I found out something weird about Windows 11 DVD writing: some data/files will not write, but Windows doesn't tell me why -- it just fairly quickly gives an error when I click burn.

I have a new Dell Windows 11 system with a built-in DVD writer, with which I can (usually) write CDs and DVDs as expected.  However, in one case I added 4 top-level folders with about 18,000 files in lots of folders below the top level.  The files will not write to the DVD, and a generic error comes up quickly.

I tried the same files on the same system with an external Dell DVD writer with the same error result -- under Windows 11.

However, if I take the same external Dell DVD writer, and the same files, and the same blank DVD (the exact one which failed in Windows 11) to my Apple Macbook Pro then the files will write to the DVD!  I can repeat this over and over.  The same folders will not write in Windows 11, but will write using Mac OSX -- so it is not a limitation of the DVD directory rules or limits.

Again, most DVD burning is ok in Windows 11, but in this case it is a weird failure for particular folders and files.

Your Mac Pro is likely of a high end model compared to the unknown new Dell pc you have.  It can be the usb connection of external burner not highly reliable for the Dell, and the built in dvd writer of Dell is of a low quality burner that does generic simple job all right but has issue w large number of files.

What software are you using to burn these discs?

Did your PC come with Cyberlink Media Suite preinstalled by Dell? You might give that a try.

If you don't have it installed, you can download it on your Dell PC for free from the Microsoft store. You will want to use the Power2Go module to burn discs.
