NVIDIA P873NV-LF video card
Hi,
I have just purchased a Dell 3910 desktop and wondered if I could use an NVIDIA P873NV-LF video card in this machine or do I need to match up memory speed etc?
any help gratefully received,
thank you

are you connecting pc via hdmi to a TV as monitor?

Looks like an old card. It doesn't have a lot of RAM. Is there a reason you chose this one?
Does it support the "recommended" ("native") resolution for your monitor and have the right type output ports? Will it support the games you want to play, assuming that's what you want to do?
You'll also need to know what the recommended PSU size is for any video card you consider. Inspiron 3910 has 3 PSU options: 180 W, 240 W, and 300 W. That will limit your choices. Which PSU size do you have?
And you also need the dimensions of the card to know if it will fit inside the case. Inspiron 3910 specs don't list max GPU dimensions.

Technically yes, but it will be like installing a cassette player to play tapes in a modern Tesla car, or in movie industry called anachronistic.
the integrated uhd graphics of 3910 is much better (652% faster) than GeForce 8400gs which is the discrete video card you are wondering about.

I can see maybe you want to hook up 3910 w some old monitor that has vga or dvi and integrated video ports of 3910 is DP + hdmi. But that would be so wasteful of the huge onboard gpu power you bought.

Thank you for your response. The issue I’m having is with the hdmi output and the screen is now cropped and I can’t see the full screen and thought I’d use the old graphics card from my old Dell Dimension.
if I could sort out the screen, I’m happy enough with the built-in graphics card in the 3910.
Any suggestions welcomed!!

Thank you so much for your reply. This card is out of my old Dell dimension pc which is why I thought to use it.
my main issue is that the screen on my monitor is cropped when using the hdmi output and no matter what display settings I choose, I cannot get a proper fit.
I thought using this card would allow me to get the full display back on my old monitor.

If that card is PCI, rather than PCI-e, it won't even install in the Inspiron...
Version of Windows?
How have you attempted to set/change the resolution on the monitor? If monitor has its own On-Screen Display (OSD) that's opened by pressing a button(s) on the monitor, look there to see if you can change the resolution...

Thank you for your very helpful information, my monitor settings don’t seem to be able to fix this so maybe I’ll just have to put up with a cropped desktop or maybe invest in a new compatible graphics board with a vga output.
I really appreciate your help.
