Inspiron 3910, updating firmware issue
About 16.00 BST yesterday I closed down the computer and was informed it needed to do an update. OK update and close down. It is currently 14.10 BST and the computer still hasn't finished, in fact it gives the appearance of not having started. I'm getting the message 'Updating your firmware Do not power down your system and Flash Progess 0%. It's been like this since yesterday.
Be grateful for advice

From what you described, your system was hung and will not progress to finish firmware update. Despite the warning message, you can force power down by holding power button for 7 seconds. Then, press power button again to boot the system up. The firmware update should run again.
The Inspiron 3910 has BIOS recovery features in case of a failed update or corrupted firmware. BIOS firmware can be recovered.

Thank you for that. I have powered down the computer once although I'm not sure about the 7 seconds. I'll try it again and report back.

Ok so I tried to use the power button to switch off, no joy. Pulled the plug and waited for 30 seconds to replace. Computer powered up ok and took a lot longer to come up, it appeared to be going through a diagnostic. Once finished gave it a run through with several programs it seems to be working just fine.
Thanks for the advice, most appreciated
