Inspiron 3650, upgrading wireless card?
I have a Dell Inspiron 3650. The PC has served me well over the years, but I am looking to upgrade my internet speeds.
My desktop is located on a different floor than my router. I have been using a powerline adapter for about 3 years now, receiving speeds of around 60-80mbps.
My powerline adapters are seeing 200-300mbps between one another, so I am losing a bit between the unit and my PC. I have tried different ethernet cables (Cat5e and Cat6), but they don't appear to make much of a difference.
I recently upgraded my internet to gigabit, and the wifi6 is quite nice. I finally have better wifi in my bedroom now, which makes me think I may get decent wifi in the office as well now (they are on the same floor).
The easiest solution I can try, is just using a USB dongle to try the wifi, but I have used them in the past (like 4-5 years ago, at a different house) and didn't much care for them. They always seemed to take a few minutes to start once the computer was turned on, and the connection seemed intermittent.
1. Can the Qualcomm QCA9565 in this machine be replaced with something better, and be done easily?
2. Would an onboard network card upgrade be a better solution than a USB dongle?
3. If yes to both of the above, what are some cards I can look into (reasonably priced) that can support 5ghz speeds (and potentially a gigabit ethernet, in case I move my office in the future).
4. What steps should I take to make sure the swap is smooth and successful?
Cheers,
Chris

1. You can upgrade to an M.2 Wifi 6 card if you want.
2. Onboard network card may included bluetooth function. Hence, it's a better solution than USB dongle.
3. It's not the best but is very decent desktop upgrade kit for your machine.
4. Replacing the wireless card procedure is on page 54 of the service manual.
While working inside your computer, don't forget to replace the coin cell battery with a new fresh CR2032.

@Chino de Oro Ordered. Installed.
Wifi is now a little over double what my powerline adapter was giving me.
Thank you!
