Inspiron 3020, restore keyboard controller?
I have a Dell Inspiron 3020 (DP & USB) and Dell Inspiron 3847(HDMI and USB) both connected to my Dell U3423WE monitor. My single keyboard is connected to the U3423WE. By selecting input using the monitor joystick I can move between computers. It's brilliant.
Inspiron 3020 has now stopped responding to keyboard when connected via Dell U3423WE. Today I erroneously ‘ejected’ a USB device (keyboard controller ?) on my Inspiron 3020. I was wanting to eject a USB drive but erroneously ejected the ‘keyboard controller’. Since then the 3020 will not respond to my keyboard or mouse unless I connect both direct to the 3020. Connected via the U3423WE the keyboard and mouse are dead.
The other computer (3847) works fine.
How can I restore the dual pc/single monitor functionality?

Try clearing BIOS on the 3020:

Disconnect and reconnect the USB upstream cable from your Inspiron 3020.

@Chino de Oro
I tried disconnecting the upstream USB just after it happened (i.e. the USB connecting the monitor with the Inspiron 3020). I just tried again - including power cycling the machine first. Inspiron 3020 remains unresponsive to the keyboard/mouse. Just booted it up again and as it powers up it states missing keyboard.
The old Inspiron 3847 works fine

Thanks for your help Chris and Ron . It looks like what went awry for me was that somehow in the U3423WE setup the DP input (for the problem Insprion 3020) had been 'assigned to the incorrect USB. It was associated with C2 when it was physically connected to C1 (90W). Changing it fixed it.
