Inspiron 3020 Power Supply Compatibility
I want a power supply with more watts for a GPU in my Inspiron 3020. Will this one work? The listing title has Inspiron 3020 in it and it looks like it takes the same 8 pin and 4 pin connectors for the motherboard. Just want to make sure I am getting the right thing.

k it needs 8-pin x 1
the psu should be ok for it. you also got seller 30 day return promise
it is 231 x 127 x 46 mm. the 3020 chassis is 292 mm long enough for the card.

if you have the new Dell Inspiron 3020 then that psu is not compatible. vendor often put errorneous info in their listing for Dell model.
basically a quick way to tell is that your new Dell psu needs to have a stamped logo on it and looks like a rectangular cracker box rather than a almost squarish cylinder in your ebay listing. that was for the older Dell desktop model. the new Dell psu may have different width depending on power rating but their height is alll the same and proprietary.

@redxps630 Okay thanks. I was also thinking of possibly using the PSU from my Inspiron 5680 which is 460W. It has a 4 pin connector for the motherboard power and a 24 pin connector for motherboard power. I know the Inspiron 3020 has a 4 pin and 8 pin on the motherboard for power. Could I use that PSU and get a 24 to 8 pin adapter?

the inspiron 8 pin is proprietary and different from earlier Dell model 8 pin in Optiplex 9020/7040. there is no known 24 to 8 pin adapter for the new Dell 8 pin. the one available is for the old Dell 8 pin. the pinouts are completely different and incompatible. your current best option is to use Dell oem psu. try to find a good deal sometimes on eBay. the new Inspiron 3020 psu 8 pin is the same in new Optiplex 7000 and 7010 as well as new vostro 3020. it is a subset of 10 pin used in XPS 8950/Aurora 13/14 and 12 pin in XPS 8960/ Aurora 15/16.

@redxps630 Okay I will probably just return the Inspiron then. Is there a way I can get the Inspiron 3020 with no GPU but the 460W PSU? or any version that has an 8 pin connector for GPUs? It is not a selectable customization for me. This amazon reviewer has an Inspiron 3020 that does not come with a GPU but does have an 8 pin connector, as shown by the final image he included in the review. I would probably purchase the one he has if it is not too much more expensive than the $750 one I bought.

you can not order a Dell new pc that has the high power psu but no gpu. they always pair high power gpu with high power psu. the low end entry spec they sell (no discrete gpu, only integrated video) is always w the lowest power psu without 6/8 pin for PCIe. you see this all the time on display in Bestbuy or microcenter

@redxps630 Then how did the amazon reviewer get that kind of Inspiron? He says his came with integrated graphics and no GPU, but had an 8 pin connector.

@redxps630 Im trying to find a way to upgrade my system while still being able to use my current GPU since its still very solid. My CPU is a seven year old i5-8400 that is certainly showing its age and bottlenecking performance. I wanted to find a way to buy a system that's made and I could just slide my 5600 XT into. Do you know any place that does this?

I still think upgrade the psu to 500w/460w Dell psu is the easiest option. If you like the Dell price on Inspiron 3020 13th gen cpu then you have to live w the limitation of proprietary part such as the cost of upgrading psu within oem line only (about 100 usd investment).

@redxps630 Ok sounds good. So this is the correct PSU for the Inspiron 3020 and it will let me hook up a GPU? That listing does not have pictures of the connectors and I want to make sure it has an 8 pin connector for my GPU.

here is a user report success of using 500 w psu w 8+4+4 pin in the inspiron 3910 (12th gen) which is the predecessor of the current 3020 (13th gen)
it is reasonable to presume the psu compatibility has not changed.
user positive evidence: 500w power supply option compatible with the Inspiron 3910. Part number: TPX56

"I can now verify that the 500w Precision T3660 power supply is compatible with the Inspiron 3910. I Installed it in the case and it's an exact match to the size of the 300w supply the 3910 came with.."

@redxps630 So this one will fit and work in the Inspiron 3020? No additional adapters or cords necessary?
