Inspiron 22 3265 boot from dvd issue

4ED5DBCB-42FE-4119-8045-A6C651CB9344.jpeg

This pc won’t boot from the HD, diagnostics show HD problems.

So I try to get it to boot from a win10 dvd.  I add the dvd to the bios boot menu, and it asks for a specific file to use to boot.  It forces me to select EFI\BOOT\bootia32.efi, then it asks for a file name.  Hmm so I type in bootia32.efi cause I’m not sure.

So I reboot, it very slowly tries to boot from the dvd, after several minutes I get the error message shown in the photo.  Seems that it’s looking for a different boot file ?

I’ve verified on another pc that it’s a good boot disc.  I got the latest 1.4.0 BIOS.

Am I giving it the wrong file name to boot from ? Is the HD so messed up that I can’t boot from a disc ?  Why do I have to tell it the specific file to use to boot from the disc ?

To boot from DVD drive, set BIOS to boot in legacy mode, enable legacy option rom (secure boot off)

To install OS, create an installation USB drive using Microsoft Windows creation tool.

If diagnostics show hard drive problem then it's better to replace to a new one instead of trying to repair it.  If you have a spinning hard drive, replacing it with a SATA solid state drive for better performance.  Give your system a new coin cell battery while you work on it.

Problem with just swapping the hd - I may still need to install the OS from disc.  I gotta figure out the disc boot problem no matter what I do.

The HD is formatted with all partitions GPT.  It won’t let me install win10 from a usb drive when bios is set to legacy,  if I go back and change bios to UEFI, it asks for a specific file to boot.  Is there an easy way to reformat the HD to MBR, or … ?

When you are installing Windows, it does not matter what type of existing partition table on the hard drive as you will delete all partitions and setup new one.  Are you still trying to repair your hard drive or setting up new one?  Let me know what you are planning to do so I can provide better advice/suggestion.
