Dell Inspiron 3647 Amber light. No post.

Hello, I have a dell inspiron 3647 that has worked perfectly fine for years. It was getting slow and dell customer support has told me before that swapping which slot the one 4gig stick of ram is in can reset something and make it a bit faster. I just did that for the billionth time and now teh computer will power up but only give a solid amber light and no signs of life on the monitor. I have replaced the cmos, reset the cmos, tried multiple monitors on vga and hdmi, ive gotten a new set of the same ddr3L ram that is a trusted brand, ive reseated the cpu (and repasted it), ive tried another known working powersupply even though the dell one is fine and its built in test works fine, and after all that I still have the exact same issue. It powers on, all fans spin, the harddrive spins to life, both the keyboard and mouse plugged into it light up, but it gives no display out to the monitor. ive literally tried everything in the book, please help.

@user_28227f  You also said you got a solid amber light.  Solid amber can mean bad MB (possibly not the only diagnosis) and blinking amber can mean bad PSU.

The Problem was the motherboard. I ordered another one off of ebay and now the computer is working fine. thanks

Hello,

if it has only the integrated gpu, do you have a way to borrow any low power gpu to test that way ?

(when you say the keyboard lights up, are you then able to change the status of the caps lock light ? )

1: currently I am not able to access a lower end gpu to try. All i have rn is a 5080 Founders and that wont work. In the future i might have access to a 3060 but thats still probably not gonna work.

2: yesturday when i was troubleshooting more, i was able to get the keyboard and mouse to light up when plugged in, but i forgot to test if caps lock would work. today when I went to try, the keyboard lights up, but the mouse didnt, so im not sure if yesturday it had caps lock. But it didnt today and i tried all of the ports and restarting it a few times.

Did you try reinstalling just the original stick of RAM?

And it still didn't work anymore?

Try replacing the size 2032 battery on the somewhat older machine released in 2014.  Bad batteries affect BIOS, PC operation, and cause all sorts of nonsense.

I already replaced the 2032 battery and did a whole bunch of other troubleshooting. Im pretty sure the motherboard is just dead even though the computer still powers on which doesnt make sense. so unless someone knows whats wrong, i might just have to try buying a new motherboard.
