Connection camera, mic and speaker.

I have a Dell 3881, windows 11.

Whatever connection I use, at the moment only the camera appears to be working. I cannot get other two to run.

All worked OK on my last 3650 which had many more connections.

Did you give permission in Windows? With speakers and mic plugged in, go to these screens:

Is volume for the mic turned up? (See bottom of Sound screen, below)

Is Sound output set up correctly in Windows?

And choose the input device on the Sound screen too.

Keep in mind this PC uses Waves MaxxAudio Pro as its main Sound controller. So you have to open Waves and configure it on its Playback screen to use your speakers. But first, power PC off and disconnect speakers (or earbuds) and mic. Boot PC and make sure Waves gets launched at boot.

Then plug speakers into the correct port on PC and wait until Waves pops up and asks what you connected. Select the best option on the popup's list.

Then open the Waves control panel and configure the speakers (turn the Equalizer on, choose music type, etc) on the Playback screen.  Close the control panel when done with speakers.

Next, plug the mic into PC and wait to see if Waves pops up ask about that and choose the right option. Then open Waves and click the Voice screen and be sure to turn the mic on there too, and run the test at bottom of that screen to set mic volume.

BTW: the audio input (mic) port on this PC is listed as a headset (headphone and microphone combo) port. So it may not work if you only have a mic without earbuds built in, and/or you may need an adapter for the mic's plug to work with this PC, even though the plug fits into the port on PC.

Speakers should be connected to the Line Out (green) port on the back at the top.

See the manual for ports to use-- Inspiron 3881 Setup and Specifications (dell.com)

Thank you for your reply.

I am very much a novice with computers, although I can usually sort problems -  eventually. As the only user of the computer I have tried to set everything as administrator.

Problem much more difficult: I used Teams three times last week. First time all worked OK. Second time no camera. Cleared Teams and re-loaded when camera was working, but I had echo. Third time no sound so I did the same with the same result.

New-ish 3881 has proved problematic - still cannot get DVD drive to work properly. This is the latest in a line of Dell computers which have all proved to be excellent. Disappointing.

Did you check all the settings I mentioned?

If PC is still under the 1-year warranty, contact Dell Tech Support for assistance, but the warranty doesn't cover software after first 30 days...

If not under warranty, maybe you have a geeky friend/relative that can help...

All settings Ok, but camera, sound and mic will only sometimes work together with Teams. All test OK but cannot test Teams until I try to use. Have re-installed Teams, but no difference.

My previous 3650 worked without problem for a very long time. Bought 3881 as I thought old machine was on way out, so out of all warranty. Worked for over a year and only stopped then because a Dell update complete blocked itand I had to start with 3881.

Maybe you need to post your problems with Teams on the Microsoft forum.

Lots of things posted about Teams over there.
