Bluetooth and JBL Charge 4

Hi all,

I have occasional very bad audio stutter on my JBL Charge 4 Bluetooth speaker. It has been happening since we bought an Inspiron 3910 and it also happens on my Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop.

Some days it is ok, others it is occasional and some days you just can't watch anything because it is so bad.

We have been through all of the usual troubleshooting you can find with Google.

We have been in contact with JBL and run through their trouble-shooting.

JBL now wants to know if my PC supports A2DP V1.3, AVRCP V1.6.

Can anyone help with that?

Thanks,

Laurie

What version of Windows?

Those features are supported by Win 10 and Win 11 but they may not be installed.  Your Inspiron 3910 supports Bluetooth 5.2 so it should support them if/when installed.

Aren't those features used for remote control of a BT device in Windows? So would you expect them to affect audio playback quality?

Is this really a "resources" issue, since it comes/goes? What CPU and how much RAM are in your Inspiron? How much "junk" software is running in the background that's hogging resources?

Can you tell if the audio stutter occurs only when certain other software is running and hogging system resources? Could this be an issue of distance between the PC and BT speaker?  Are you using Waves MaxxAudio Pro to control audio output on this system?

Do you have an add-in video card or only have onboard Intel Graphics? (Intel Graphics uses lots of CPU time and RAM which might affect audio and BT.)

Are all your drivers up-to-date for Audio, Bluetooth, etc? Is the firmware up-to-date for your SSD and BIOS?  You can go to the support page and enter your Service Tag to see the updates available for your specific PC. (Don't post Service Tag here.)

@laurie5

Since the bluetooth speakers are not a Dell product and your PC is not a smart phone I don't  know that there is help.

AVRCP stands for Audio/Video Remote Control Profile.
If you are using a Bluetooth remote rather than a smartphone app, you’re likely to run into steep limitations. Each remote will depend on the manufacturer, but typically, they don’t support as many features as smartphone apps and other smart controllers.

Re: It has been happening since we bought an Inspiron 3910 and it also happens on my Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop.

are you saying you are transmitting audio from 3910 or 15 5000 to BT speaker when stutter or sound distortion happens?  Does this also happen when you transmit iPod or cell phone music to the speaker in the presence of Dell desktop/laptop?
the question is whether the Dell wireless BT card has issue, or whether speaker still stutters when paired with a non-Dell audio source (in the presence of Dell).

if speaker is perfectly fine playing iPod music while Dell pc are nearby turned on, but when paired w Dell you get occasional stutter, then you can suspect Dell BT card is having issue.

Hi all,

Thanks for your input. My laptop is Win10 and PC is Win11.

Both are i7 and plenty of RAM, we also don't have much going on when we are watching stuff.

I ended up uninstalling my drivers and letting them reinstall (again...), but also followed RoHe's advice and did updates from the support page.

I always do the recommended updates, but there were some pending. I didn't think they were related, however we have had no problems for nearly a week since doing that.

So here's hoping it's stable.

Thanks all,

Laurie
