Dynamic v. Static using Dell Image Assist

A Dynamic Image Assist Image created in a virtual machine (VM) without drivers can work on different hardware systems. More than 95% of Image Assist customers use this approach to avoid dealing with different images for each platform.

Using Image Assist Dynamic

Setting up your system

NOTE: Do not use Audit Mode when running Image Assist Dynamic

Running Image Assist

  1. Download Image Assist
  2. Install Image Assist Dynamic
  3. Create and capture Dynamic image
  4. Restore and test image

A Static Image is created with drivers for a specific hardware model and works only on that model, similar to Ghost imaging.

Using Image Assist Static

  1. Download Image Assist
  2. Install Image Assist Static
  3. Create a bootable Image Assist Static USB drive
  4. Capture Static image
  5. Restore and test image
