RAID 5+1
Good day,
This may not be the right place to ask this but, when I was going through the build options for a R720xd server I got to the HD selection and noticed that since I chose a RAID 5+1 I had to choose at least 2 SATA drives and then SAS drives for the RAID 5. I thought it wasn't a good idea to mix SAS and SATA? Why does the online component options tell me there is an error when I want to choose all 15K RPM SAS drives?

No, the only thing I can think of is that you are selecting one of the backplane configurations that have the +2 HDD expansions slots. If you select the 3.5" backplane with the +2 slots then you can't use the same HDD's across both arrays. The +2 slots are 2.5" only.
If that is not that case then I'll need to know all of the configuration options you are selecting. I have not found a way to get the exact error you are reporting on the R720XD. I get this error when I select 5 3.5" SAS 15Ks and have the +2 HDD bay:
Flex Bay (Internal cage) Hard Drive Configuration require Flex Bay 2.5” SAS or SATA HDD or SSD. The Raid 1 set needs exactly two hard with same size, speed and capacity. Please update your selection from the following: Hard Drive module.

Is this the option you are talking about? RAID 1+RAID 5 for H710P/H710/H310 (2 + 3-22 HDDs) add $0.00
That configuration is a RAID 1 and a RAID 5. RAID 1 is 2 HDDs and RAID 5 is minimum 3 HDDs. We do not support drive mixing within an array. For instance, you can't put an SSD and 2 SAS drives into a RAID 5 together, but you can have multiple drive types on the same controller. You can create a RAID 1 with 2 SSDs and a RAID 5 with 3 SAS drives or any other combination as long as they are not mixed in the same array together.

Yes that's basically what I was talking about. I understand that it's 2 RAIDs and you can't mix drives within the RAID. I was just curious as to why I couldn't use 2 SAS drives in the RAID 1? If I don't choose 2 SATA drives for the RAID 1 I get this error:
Errors:
SATA and SAS mix Hard Drive Configurations [1st] Raid set requires minimum/maximum two SATA and [2nd] Raid set requires SAS Hard Drives.
Is it a requirement that a RAID 1 in that setup can't have SAS drives?

Thanks, I didn't realize or pay attention to what I was selecting I guess. I think I will have to choose this option to cover my needs:
Unconfigured RAID for H710P/H710/H310 (1-24 HDDs) [Included in Price]
and just configure it when I recieve it. I couldn't find an option for RAID 1 + RAID 5 that would allow me to make the selection I wanted.
