dstroik ,

When the firmware upgrade fails, does it provide any kind of error message? Are you trying to update to version 5.2.*?

Ensure you follow the firmware update as outlined in the "Updating Firmware for Dell EqualLogic PS Series " on the firmware download page.  This is the link to v6.0 of the document (login required): https://support.equallogic.com/support/download_file.aspx?id=1627&langtype=1033

To get to the latest version 6.x from 5.0.8, you need to first update to v5.2.x, restart the array(s).  Once the update is completed, you are prompted to restart the array, THIS is MANDATORY, do not skip this step.  If this is a multi-member group, you need to do all the member to this version first, before proceeding.

Once all the member are at 5.x.x, you can then update to v6.x.

You may also need to first FTP to each member and clear the update directory, this is a simple process, just ftp to each member (using a ip address from one of the eth interfaces of that member, NOT the Group IP), and log in as grpadmin.  if you see any *.dgo, or any other files it's safe to delete them. Once cleaned up, you should be able to run the update from the GUI or via the CLI.
