VVOL Offline after creation
Hi,
We have two ESXi 6 clusters each with 3 hosts. (R620 and R730) These hosts are connected to Equallogic storage arrays (6100XS, 4100E and 4210X) All Equallogic run the 8.0.4 firmware and the ESX hosts are all up-2-date.
When I create a VVOL volume the wizard successfully completes the process and the VVOL is created on the Equallogic. Only the volume is "Offline" there are no errors displayed.
We also have a test environment with an old PS4000e and firmware 8.0.4 On this environment the VVOL is created and available.
Where can I find a detailed log?
Kind regards,
Patrick

Hi,
We've fixed the problem. The issue was with the Mem 1.3 plugin. This version was already installed on ESXi 5.5. After upgrading to ESXi 6.0 the VMWare Update manager didn't detect that the installed version was a 5.5 one. After manually removing the MEM 1.3 ESXi 5.5 version and reinstalling the MEM 1.3 ESXi 6.0 version everything was working.
The 5.5 and 6.0 version both have the same version number. This why the VMware update Manager or even a manual install will fail.
@Dell Maybe a small version bump in the ESXi 6.0 MEM will solve a lot of questions ;-)
Dell support was by the way excellent and very helpful.

Patrick

There was a minor restriction like "only a single member pool" when using VVOL at the beginning. How many EQLs do you have in your pool and can Don or one of the other check if the limitation is a current one or already dropped?

Hi, we are running on the latest firmware's and software versions (8.0.4 and 4.5.1) The pool we are trying to connect exist of 2 members 6100 and a 4100. But we're are experiencing the same problems to a single member pool (4210)
Currently Dell tech support is investigating the issue. Just send a few gigabytes off logs :-)

Patrick

Did Dell get back to you on the solution?
