VSM 5.0.0 new install can't connect to EQL group

I just installed a new VSM 5.0.0 appliance in my vSphere 6.5U2 environment.

I have an EqualLogic group with members on v10.0.1 of the EQL software, which I think should work.

I've triple-checked the IP addresses.  I can connect to the EQL group via the java client with the username and password I'm using in the VSM config.

Any suggestions for where to look to for debug messages or for what to do differently?

Thanks.

Hello,

What is the error you are getting?   When you do the test credentials does it display an error?

If you can ping the VSM appliance from the array, and you get an error testing credentials the most common problem is legacy-crypto-protocols have been disabled.

GrpName>grpparams crypto-legacy-protocols enable

See if that resolves it.

Make sure you VSM is on the Array Management network if you are using Dedicated Mgmt port.  It won't connect to the iSCSI only network.

On general purpose you should upgrade to 10.0.2. which is the most current version.  Not related to this issue.

If that does not work I would suggest you open a support case so they can review the logs.

Regards,

Don

Thanks.  I'm updating to 10.0.2 now. The other thing I discovered is that the newest release of java needed to have security settings changed to get the java client or the DSUM to work.  Your older responses helped me discover that.

When I try to issue that command you posted I get:

 GrpName> grpparams crypto-legacy-protocols enable
% Error - Unspecified error

Correction.  After update I tried to do the command again over SSH and this time it worked.  Strange.  Maybe I was fat-fingering it before?

Once I enabled legacy crypto, the VSM logged right in.  It's funny, I'm watching on the command line log right now and it keeps logging in and logging out.

Hello,

Re: Error. I was going to say once you do the firmware upgrade that issue will likely be resolved.   So no you had the command correct.

The login / logout is normal.  It doesn't maintain a constant connection to the group.  Only when needed and periodically to get updated info on group.

Glad you are all set!

Don
