PS6500

Question

Hello,

I have an equallogic PS6500E - have upgraded the controllers to latest version

had a drive failure and swapped out the faulty drive for another ST33000650SS - 6H6FG

the other drives in the system are at revision level RE12 - the new drive is RS14 - is the fact its RS not RE the issue here?

Hello, That is still sounds like an OEM drive, not an EQL branded drive. As there is no 'enterprise plus' version of an EQL certified drive. When the OEM made the drive specifically for EQL arrays it was customized to be recognized by the array as a certified drive. You cannot take a standard OEM drive and make it compatible. Regardless of the firmware level or part number. It's internal to the drive itself. Regards, Don

Hello, No, that should not cause any issues. They are both EQL certified drives. The newer drive will have fixes in its code that the other drives do not. Regards, Don

yeah i didn't think it should make a difference - however its showing the new drive as not being approved so thought that may be the reason

Hello, That is a different issue. That means it is not a drive made for EQL arrays. It's not the FW version or model number that matters. The drives are custom manufactured by the vendor to only work with EQL arrays. Even a Dell drive from a PowerVault or server will not work. I suggest you request another drive from your 3rd party maintainer. Regards, Don

ahh ok, would the enterprise plus version of the 6H6FG work in the PS6500E or is this the reason its not approved?
