Firmware Version
We have a group named EQLBackup that provides space for backup and replication. There are two pools in the group.
- Pool C – 1 PS6500 in raid 6
- Pool M – 2 PS5000 in raid 5
The firmware version on each of the members in both pools is V7.1.4. We are not storing data on pool M but we have continued to leave the members running.
We are looking at purchasing a PS6210 and adding it to pool M so the PS6500 could be removed from the group and be repurposed in a primary storage group. That would reduce the raw space available in pool C from 144 TB to 96 TB. The ultimate plan is to move 2 PS6000s from a primary storage group into pool M to restore some of the lost space but during the transition time I would be very low on space in the pool.
I would like to use PS5000s to temporarily provide space for pool M until I am able to add the PS6000s to the pool. A concern I have is the firmware version difference between the PS5000s and the PS6210. I expect the PS6210 would have a newer version than V7.1.4. Could I upgrade the PS5000 firmware to the latest 7.1.X version and, if necessary, downgrade the PS6210 firmware to the same version? Are there any issues I should expect from running a PS6210 in the same group or same pool with a couple PS5000s?
