Equal Logic 6110 Initial Setup
We just received a repurposed Equal Logic PS 6110. After performing a reset to restore it to the default setting, it is unable to initialize or complete a setup. I am connected via the serial port. After the reboot, the following message appears:
It appears that the storage array has not been configured.
Would you like to configure the array now ? (y/n) [n]y
Group Manager Setup Utility
The setup utility establishes the initial network and storage
configuration for a storage array and then configures the array
as a member of a new or existing group of arrays.
For help, enter a question mark (?) at a prompt.
Do you want to proceed (yes | no ) [no]: yes
*** Cannot create mini RAID set: No devices.
Setup has failed. Please contact customer support.
The storage array is still initializing. Limited commands will be available until the initialization is complete. Please try again later.
When the reset was performed, it was a full system reset to factory default. There are no arrays stored on the system. The problem is, there has been no RAID units configured. I also have seven new drives installed and and this error is displayed:

Has anyone else seen this issue before and if so, how was it resolved to allow for a new setup?
Thanks

Hello,
Also, the EQL array only supports 1/2 populated or fully populated drive slots. A 24 slot chassis needs at least 12 drives in order to setup a RAIDset. A 16 slot chassis would need a minimum of 8, etc..

Hello,
Where did you get the drives? You cannot use standard OEM or even Dell drives that weren't specifically made to work in EqualLogic SANs.
You will need to find used EQL drives for that 6110. Also, it's 10GbE only, it does not sync down to GbE. So you will need a 10GbE switch.

The drives are Dell Enterprise Plus, Constellation ES2 models. At this time I am unable to see the web interface. I was able to program the IP address upon rebooting and pressing the ctrl+P combo and setting the IP to my subnet but I can only ping it. When trying to access it via the web browser I am unable to.

Hello,
The model numbers is not what is critical. The drives are modified internally to be recognized. So, unless they were specifically MFR'd for Equallogic Arrays they will not work. Which is what the error messages you are seeing is indicating.
The WebGUI is only available after you setup the array, it does not run from the SD card.
Once you have the proper drives, you also need a 10GbE link. You cannot set up an EQL array without being connected to a switch.
