After upgrade from RHEL 5 to 7.3, volume list won't stay

I am newbie to Dell EqualLogic Host Integration Tools for linux. So hope to get some help here. We recently upgrade our RHEL from 5 to 7.3. After the upgrade, I re-install the HIT and  Logging into a Volume with Multipath I/O. it's all fine.

# ehcmcli login --login-at-boot --target iqn-name --portal 10.10.10.10

I can see the volume after login. I also setup so it will automatic login at boot, but once I reboot the server, that volume is gone.

# ehcmcli login --target target [--portal portal] --login-at-boot

I also so confused with the LVM and HIT. The redhat support person said we are using HIT metadata for the volume instead of LVM so they won't be able to help us, But I don't understand the logic between HIT and LVM. After I login the volume and I can see it through #ehcmcli status. I was hoping to mount that volume to a directory. seems not working , once I reboot that volume is gone. Do I need to create physical volume and logical volume? Is it necessary?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi Don

Thanks a lot for the clarification. That's what I thought too about LVM nd HIT

We didn't upgrade our HIT 1.4 because the firmware of the our SAN is v7.1.14, which only support HIT up to v 1.4.0. but 1.4.0only support up to RHEL 7.1, but we are at RHEL 7.3 now, l don't know if that is matter or not.

Anyway while I'm testing, I did the mkfs command for that device which might wipe the data. I thought we have the snapshot at VMware to revert back but our ITS department just told me because that iSCSI volume is outside the VM snapshot, so I can't revert back .

After l revert back to RHEL 6, I can see the volume from ehcmcli status, I can see all the LVM setting, the physical volume, volume group, logical volume, but cannot mount it, it shows it's a LVM_2 member cannot mount error. And I dare not to use mkfs any more. Not sure how we can get the data back.

I didn't set snapshot for LVM. I also not sure if Dell will support a ticket like this. This is our training system, but I still Hope to get the databack as it does have some settings for staff training purpose.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Don

Can you point me to the right direction for creating snapshot and recover under HIT/LE? Do we need Auto-Snapshot Manager/VMware Edition (ASM/VE)?

Is Gillware, the 3rd party company that worked with DEEL/EQL to do the recovery?

Thanks again for all the help.

Jenny
