Data Domain VTL
Is there any capacity pre-allocated when the tape/slot is defined into the Data Domain VTL system ?

The space is consumed when data arrives to the tapes.
Keep in mind that these capacities are the default sizes used if the capacity option is not included when creating the tape cartridge. If a capacity value is included, then it overrides the two-character tag. Be careful also with VTL design to not fill the file system, since the tapes are not deleted until they are reinitialized. A correct number of tapes, a good retention policy and a good cleaning schedule help this concern.

You can create tapes with unique barcode ending with the following tape capacity:
L1 100GB
L2 200GB
L3 400GB
LA 50GB
LB 30GB
LC 10GB

Hello Fernando-san,
Thank you for your inform.
Is the capacity of 100GB consumed when I define the tape preparation of (L1)100GB in the system or is not nothing consumed as long as data is not actually written on the tape ?
