16 Premium DA16250, Bios update 1.5.0 disabled my keyboard back lighting

I got this Dell 16 Premium DA16250 10/8/25.  A BIOS update (1.5.0) was done a few days ago.  After that I didn't have backlit keyboard function.  Only the top function keys were lit.  I tried going to the BIOS and changing the settings, but nothing changed.

@All G I contacted support and after verifying I that had updated to the latest BIOS they instructued me to send in the laptop for repair.   A new keyboard was installed and the laptop was returned to me.  Installing a new replacement keyboard resolved the problem.

Hi everyone,

Updating the BIOS to version 1.6.2 or later on the laptop resolves the issue.

To download and install the latest driver

Click Get Help Now on the right to start a chat with Dell Technical Support.

Please post a video of the issue.

Are you able to back flash to BIOS 1.4.1? Or when attempting this back flash, does it stop you with a message?

@DELL-ChrisM2

I was on a chat with Dell Tech Support all day Monday.  you think they would have told me to try that.  I was able to revert back to 1.4.1 BIOS.  It just warned me of security warnings, but I got my back light again.  Dell Tech Support created a service request to replace my keyboard:

How do I cancel this action?
Thanks

@DELL-ChrisM2

I have the same DA16250 laptop, same problem after the bios update to 1.50, no backlit keyboard. I didn't call support, no time in my schedule and I don't want to backflash to 1.4.1. Can Dell fix the issue in the next bios release? Please confirm! I really need the backlit keyboard.

Can Dell fix the issue in the next bios release?

* All we Forum Liaisons can do is report the thread and number of users to the Laptop team.

* Update October 31, 2025 = BIOS 1.6.1 could be posted on November 12, 2025. On that date check the 16 Premium DA16250 Drivers & Downloads page.

@DELL-ChrisM2 I understand. Please report it as there are probably many out there that don't realize their backlight is gone until they need it. They also may not know why it happened and what to do about it. Dell can go about replacing keyboards at a major cost unless they are made aware and fix the bios.

I reverted back to version 1.4.1 and successfully got my backlight back.  Unfortunately, on my next start up, the system automatically upgraded the firmware and bios again back to 1.5 and my backlight is now not functional again.  Hoping a new update is prepared soon to fix this.

@DELL-Nat M

New late 2025 build.  Update to BIOS 1.7.0 did not resolve this issue for me.  BIOS defaults to backlight "disabled" even after applied, saved changes.  Support is replacing the keyboard on the new computer after troubleshooting published suggestions.
