Tower ECT1250, drive bay/ drive caddy

Been a customer since before 2009. That will change.

Besides a miserable buying experience....I purchased a ECT1250.

The mother board comes with an SATA expansion slot for a second drive. I was planning on moving a 2nd

drive (3.5") from an older Dell tower to the new tower. The mounting method is different for the new tower. As shown on page 49 of the owner's manual for the new tower, there is a removable drive bay/drive caddy that the HD mounts in. The new tower did not come with the HD mount and I don't see a way to reuse the older mount or a way to attach it to the new chassis unless I'm missing something.

After 90 minutes of chat with tech support, talk with tech support, and talk with sales, I was told the drive mount is not available....but its shown in the owner's manual. If the photo had high enough resolution I could pull the part number. Told to look at after market sources for something that might work. That's not okay.

Bought this in the hopes that it would work on the ECT 1250, and it is a perfect match and fit.  All cables provided work exactly as hoped.  I installed a 3.5" Seagate 2TB HD which installed perfectly and hooked up with the supplied Cable(s).  You have to unscrew and remove the insert bracket on the front of the unit after you remove the plastic cover to allow the new HD bracket to nest in.  My machine fired right up with no issues after install

I too bought an ECT1250 expecting drive expansion would be simple. After much research, I found that the correct Dell parts come as a kit (3.5 inch drive caddy, power and SATA cables, cable management clip, and screws) as https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-35hdd-caddy-bracket-with-cable/apd/575-bcsk/storagedrives-media

I also purchased a Samsung 2TB SSD on Amazon although the price has since increased a lot maybe around $55 and delivery took longer than the Dell kit. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QB93S6R?ref_=pe_125775000_1044873430_t_fed_asin_title&th=1

Also anticipating that the Dell kit wouldn't accommodate a 2.5" SSD, I also purchased a 2.5 inch drive caddy - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016498CK0?ref_=pe_125775000_1044873430_t_fed_asin_title&th=1

The following Dell video does a great job of showing how to install everything except they lef tout a very crucial part of removing and discarding a corner bracket on the upper left front side where the new Dell caddy first hooks into before swinging into place. https://www.dell.com/support/contents/en-us/videos/videoplayer/how-to-install-the-hard-drive-and-drive-bay/6377059871112

Once correct orientation and alignment of the SSD in the 2.5 inch caddy and then 2.5 inch caddy into the Dell caddy and then Dell caddy into the frame, everything pretty much fell into place. The bios recognized the new drive without any changes. The only thing needed to do was under Disk Management was to allocate the drive partitions and format which took maybe a minute to do. So far everything is working great.

Same problem with my ECS1250 Slim. Marketed as upgradable to SATA HDD or SSD, but Dell Australia say they cannot supply the swing bay needed to mount the drive. The required Mini 6-pin SATA power cable may have pinout voltages unique to Dell, so buying a generic could be risky to warranty. The cable does seem to be available directly from Dell spare parts. I've been waiting for a quote. I have bought a 3.5" to 2.4" drive converter cradle which comes with screws that coincidentally fix to existing mounts for the swing bay. I will connect my SATA 1Tb 2.5" SSD that way if the power cable ever arrives.

@KingDondee Dell sales told me today they might have a "kit" to add a HD to a ECT1250 available this October. Thought it might include a drive caddy, data cable, and power cable. No idea of cost. She couldn't find the power cable as an accessory part (5GPWK) or the caddy (GOWKG) that could be purchased now..... I'm just a messenger.

Same problem here. Purchased Dell ECT1250 16GB/512GB SSD from Costco. It has no drive bay bracket. Before purchase, I too had ensured that the product description said it could be expanded with an additional drive. Disappointed.

@AnnArborDellUser Add me to the list of people who are disappointed in Dell. I wanted to mount an additional 2TB HDD inside my computer, but I am totally stymied!

For now I decided to purchase a larger SSD to replace the 512GB C: drive with a 2 TB drive. This will give me the additional storage I need without having to purchase a bracket.

Same issue with the desktop units (Pro Max Slim FCS1250) - no drive bracket available if you don't order it together with the PC and a hard disk. Ridiculous and absolutely disappointing.

I purchased the Slim ECS1250 in early August.  I was told by Sales that the rotation bay would be available in October.  They could not tell me the part number yet.

I have another question.  Can I install a 3.5" SATA drive that is larger than 2TB?  Why does Dell list the maximum size as 2 TB?

But can't find the drive bay bracket....very disappointed. I purchased this last week and it is still in the box and now I am debating...

Same disappointment here. The ECS1250 is supposed to be upgradable but now we're finding out it is not. Also considering returning the complete system.

Dell now has the drive caddy (rotation bay) available for purchase for $35.  I ordered one last week and am expecting it to arrive next week.  Here is the part info:

I will let you know how the installation goes.

Understand cutting down cost. However, not providing parts for Dell suggested procedure is another thing. Have been a loyal customer for more than 20 years because of the product quality and flexibility. This might be my very last one from Dell.
