Slim ECS1250, no bay for additional drives
When I purchased this Desktop in early September, I was told by Dell sales that it was ready to install a second internal drive. When I opened it up, it had no bay for any additional drives. Dell Finally got the caddy and cables needed and shipped them to me at an additional cost. The problem is this, the caddy does not fit. My question and reason for posting, maybe it's something I did wrong in trying to install it, so has anyone else purchased this slim caddy kit and successfully installed the caddy in their ECS1250 desktop and if so any tricks as how you got it installed?

I GOT IT! I found a Video of the ECS1250 with the HHD Caddy installed...and it showed how to remove it. Strange it would show removal and not Install. When the caddy was removed I saw that the Frame of the 1250 where the caddy fits....it did not look like mine...my frame was level, the Video showed the frame as indented the width of the caddy. Looking closer at the 1250's frame, I saw a medal Pc of the frame that with the removal of 1 screw that pc could be removed....did so and the HHD caddy fit with no issues. The 1250's Owners Manual How to Install the caddy....does NOT mention anything about removing a medal slot to accommodate the caddy's' install. All's good. The other issue for me is, this is the 1st dell Desktop I have purchased, and I have have purchased 7 Desktops...that did NOT come with a extra Internal HDD slot....and you had to Buy it.....

Like what Dell did in QCS1250.
NOTE:The drive bay is only available in computers shipped with a hard drive or an optical drive.
If shipped with SSD, no HDD bay. Page 41 =

Perhaps so...but before I purchased the ECS1250...Sales told me it would came ready with the internal bay installed ready to install either an HDD or SSD...and the Owners Manual which I reviewed before I purchased, it showed the Drive Caddy and mentioned nothing about it only is installed if you ordered an Drive with the purchase. So I relied on the experts in sales, and the manual to make the purchase...to get the 1250 to find all that I had been told by dell...and the Manual....was not so. I even had a Dell tech agent tell me due to its size, you could not install an add'l drive in the 1250. I finally got confirmation you could install a 2nd internal drive but needed the caddy and cables...and shortly after the purchase was told it was not available. Working my way up in Management I finally got a Dell agent who informed me the Caddy/Cable Kit would become available in 8 to 10 weeks. This together with the poor How to Install an add'l drive in the 1250...nowhere advising it required the removal of part of the 1250's medal frame....is disappointing from a Company I have purchased my PC's from for over 35 years..... In the end all worked out, my 2nd SSD is installed....but a bumpy road to get their with poor install instructions....

Lesson: sales agent (who seem not to know the spec sheet details) have sweet tongue to trick buyer. I don’t think it is intentional gross lie to customer but some can be disingenuous like car sales person they tend to exaggerate perks offering more than actually inside.

How did people get them to send the drive bay and SATA power cable. I can't even get Dell to respond. Customer Care closed my case and told me to contact technical support. Technical support hasn't respond or taken any action on case since being opened on 12/05 (20 days ago). Contacted Dell today and they say I need to contact Customer Care. It's just going in circles.
I too received confirmation that unit was storage expandable before purchasing just like ever Dell I have bought in the past. At moment I have PC sold as storage expandable but without ability to expand or any information or confirmation one way or the other. The SATA data and power ports are there but there is no place to mount SSD drive and no power connector.
Dell has really jumped the shark in support and build specs. If I wanted a non-expandable 1 drive computer one OS system I would have bought a Mac Mini. At least it doesn't come with Windows.

read the comment entered by CHENGZHI...the Drive caddy and cables can be purchased at eBay. I did purchase mine from dell...but I worked with a Special agent as sales and tech support provided no help...tech Support told me the ECS1250 could not accommodate an Internal caddy. The purchase price at eBay is about $20.00 more than I paid at Dell...but if you want it...its their to purchase
