Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 8-pin (6+2) GPU power cable part numbers
Hi,
We ordered a Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 without a discrete GPU and it came with two 12VHPWR (16-pin) GPU power cables.
We want to install an older GPU that has two 8-pin power sockets.
Does Dell sell an adapter with 12VHPWR socket to two 8-pin (or two 6+2 pin) plugs? Or does Dell sell a complete cable with 8-pin (or 6+2 pin) plugs at one end and the other end plugs into the PSU? If so, what are the part numbers?
Thanks,
Doug

Sharing my solution here. I have found a 12 VHPWR female adapter to dual 8-pin male adapter that works for my Pro Max T2 and my older RTX card.
Found it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0CNRQQK3F
COMeap 12VHPWR Cable Extension, 16 Pin Female to Dual 8 Pin(6+2) Male PCIe Conversion GPU Power Cable for Power Supply with 12+4pin 12VHPWR Port 7.67 in
It took me awhile to find this adapter among a tsunami of 8-pin to 12-pin adapters (opposite adapting direction) where the GPU was ahead of time of the PSU while this issue is the other way around. New computer with an old but still good graphic card.

Hi Doug,
I'm afraid I don't have an answer (I'm sure you already worked it out) - but I do have a question. I'm hoping to buy a Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 also without a discrete card and I'm going to be adding a RTX5090. Support are useless and I cant find the 12v pinout configuration for the 1500w psu. My question is how do the 12VHPWR cables connect to the PSU? I believe there are 2 x 6pin and 2 x 8 pin and need to know how much juice each one can deliver, and knowing how your supplied cables connected would help me a lot. If it has an 8 + 6 pin connector I will know that, that combination can deliver 450w and so my hope to power the GPU from 2 x 8 to 12V-2×6 @ 600w will work.
Thanks
Dan
I hope you managed to get some good quality 8pin cables for your GPU choice.

Doug,
Have you found a solution? I have the exact same problem with my newly delivered Pro Max T2, and I can't connect my geforce RTX3070 XC3 that comes with two 8-pin plugs.
Thanks,
Luke

I ended up finding out that all of the current discrete GPU cards Dell offered as options for the Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 have a 12VHPWR socket or didn't need a socket at all for entry level GPU cards. So was unlikely Dell offered any official 6+2-pin cables or adapters.
The users ended up buying newer GPUs or similar 3rd party adapter. You're not wrong about the tsunami of the opposite gender adapters out there.

@WildfireStudios I'm having a similar predicament. I got a FCT2250 with a GeForce 5070, and it came with a power cable that used 1x6-pin and 1x8-pin (out of the total 2+2) to power it. I'm trying to figure out how to run a 600W card out of it (for a 5090), but no luck so far.
If anyone has that system with a 5090 installed (or a Blackwell Pro; this also draws 600W) it would be useful to know what the power cable looks like, and any P/N that might be attached to it ...

When using the Dell website custom configurator and selecting the new 1500W V2 PSU with an older GPU card, it comes up with following error:
Dell started offering the GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell as options for the FCT2250 at the end of July and the RTX 5080 / 5090 at the end of August.
I'm a bit surprised that the Dell GeForce RTX 5070 card would come with 1x6-pin and 1x8-pin cables, but at least you have the new 1500W V2 PSU instead of the original 1500W PSU.

@dkosovic Hello, my Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 with 1500W psu came with two 12pin gpu power cables (each 12 pin cable splits to 8pin and 6pin at PSU side)
What cards have you tried? I tried Quadro K2200 but doesn't boot at all. My goal is to find adaptors 12pin to 8pin for my Quadro RTX4000 but i am not that sure if it's compatible before i start searching around for adaptors.

@fvnet here at my workplace, I gave the user wanting to use a GeForce RTX 3090 (with dual 8-pin connectors) the following 16pin plug to dual 8 Pin (6+2) pins adapter options:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008171460699.html
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005912073323.html
I'm not sure which one was actually purchased as he contacted someone in the finance department to use their corporate credit card. I also wasn't involved in the installation of the adapters.
There was also the one Luke posted in an above post that was from Amazon that worked for him.
@wiscoguy, although my workplace has two Pro Max Tower T2 desktops with RTX Pro 5090 Blackwell GPU, they were already deployed to another building and are constantly running simulations remotely, so a bit awkward to open them up and take pictures, sorry. If we get any more, I will take photos.

I need to provide additional feedback on my experience of installing the RTX 3090 on the Pro Max T2. After getting the power cable adapter, I did manage to get it all working and I was happy to share this here earlier. However, after a few days of use it has become apparent that there are compatibility issues with the computer power management. The card fans have a tendency to spin up without load, and more worrisome, even when the computer is in standby mode - along with randomly flashing power light.
I wouldn't consider the RTX 3090 as compatible with this computer, at least with the current BIOS. I moved on and replaced it with with an RTX 5070 Ti which is working great.
