iDRAC vs. OMSA when monitoring remotely?

What are the feature set differences between configuring a device in OpenManage Essentials (OME) using just the iDRAC versus using just the OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) client when monitoring a server remotely?

The servers being monitored are all Ubuntu 14.04 using version 1.3 of OME running on Windows Server.

If you are using a 12G server with iDrac 7, it might be easier for you just to manage via out-of-band (e.g., iDrac/WSMan).  It should provide all the same device inventory and monitoring.  Only difference is that the System Update feature will not patch OS drivers and such.  But FW can be patched via OOB.

If you are using 11G or earlier servers, go ahead and use OMSA with SNMP for monitoring.

Hope this helps,

Rob
