SVC3020 ESXI 6.5 and autogrow

Hello,

i addet more space to my storage and wanted to add this to my ESXI datastore.

I cant't see space after the existing volume on esxi side - the svc3020 storage supports auto growing - what am I missing? Is theare any way to extend the existing vmfs beyond its limits?

On your 3020 did you expand one of the volumes? Once you do this the space will be available on the ESX side.

A. expand a Volume in SC3020 ()not too large as you cannot shrink a volume)

B. Expand the VMDK or RDM in ESX. Refer to page 55 of the Storage SC Series Best Practices with VMware vSphere 5.x–6.x: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/extras/m/white_papers/20441056

Thought about vmkfstools to set a biger volumesize - but that sounds easy!

Now i must investigate at storage side and how to extend a existing volume..

Thanks a lot!

From page 113 of the dell storage manager 2016 r3 administrator’s guide:
http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/storage-sc2000_administrator%20guide_en-us.pdf

Steps

  1. Select a Storage Center from the Storage view. (Data Collector connected Storage Manager Client only)
  2. Click the Storage tab.
  3. In the Storage tab navigation pane, select the volume you want to expand.
  4. In the right pane, click Expand Volume. The Expand Volume dialog box opens.
  5. Type a new size for the volume, then click OK.

Do not make the Volume too large. You can increase it more later, but you cannot shrink it.
