support for Windows Server 2012

Is it supported?  Can someone point me to documentation regarding Windows Server 2012 support?  Thanks

I checked with one of my Compellent contacts and the way our Compellent support works is we will support it all when it comes to the OS. So even though we are still testing things it is still fully supported on the Compellent line.

At this point Windows 2012 has not been included on the list of supported Operating systems. Depending on what storage device you are working with I have seen it work just fine it just hasn't been added to the support matrix. What devices are you working with and I can do some testing and see if I run into any issues on it. I would advise to just keep an eye on the support matrix for each device on the www.support.dell.com website as it will be added there once all the testing has been completed. I just haven't heard of an ETA on when that will occur.

However, with that with the Compellent arrays we will still assist you in what ever you need even while they are still testing that OS. So if you have some questions please let me know and I would be happy to help you.

Hi,

Version 6.2.1 now supports Windows 2012.

I have a system running this version in my lab.

Hello Kenny

My experience so far with Server 2012 Hyper-V and the new virtual fibre HBA is that it doesn't work 100% with Series 40 Controllers and SC ver 5.4.1.  All seems to work ok if you only use VHDX containers for VM storage.

As SC 6.2.1 is only supported on Series 40 controllers and up (as far as I am aware) are there any plans for support for older series 20 controllers?

At this point there are no plans on the 20 and 30 series controllers being able to use SC 6.X as those older controllers are 32 bit systems and the SC 6.X code is 64Bit only.

6.2.2 does NOT work reliably with Windows 2012 .. do not believe copilot if they tell you otherwise.

Sure .. the biggest incompatibility is with windows 2012 and sql (either 2008r2 or 2012) both complain about cluster sizes on the compellent.  6.2 was supposed to fix this, but it doesn't.  Works fine with either Violin or Equalogic or local storage.  Reloaded OS 3 times to verify incompatibility.

Reloaded same servers with 2008r2 and sql 2012 and everything is fine.

Can you share more details ?

We have multiple servers / clusters with 2012 so far without issues.

Thanks,

I see the same problem albeit I am not yet on 6.2, the only way I could get around it for now was to use VHDX containers instead of direct mappings and the same as you I reverted to 2008r2 for SQL2012
