SCv2020 - read and write cache are currently down on this storage center

Hi All

I met a problem, the following red message displays in the Cache from Storage

Read and Write Cache are currently down on this storage center

Now my writing speed is incredibly slow, how to solve this?

Hello @Mo1998

Each storage controller has an internal battery backup unit. Write cache is mirrored between the two storage controllers. If a power failure occurs, the battery backup unit provides power to the storage controller so that the write cache can be saved to an SSD within the storage controller

So.. Two possible options: this can be a software problem that may be able to be solved with a firmware update. Or this is a hardware issue that will need a hardware replacement.

Please, check your firmware and, if possible, update it. If the problem persist or the update is not possible, you will need to contact phone support if your Compellent is still in warranty for a log analysis and a possible hardware replacement.

Regards.

Hi Diego López,

Many thanks for your update.

I already have updated the Storage Center and there is no more available updates.

Also I had an issue with one Controller battery and replaced with the same part number , there is no more hardware error at htis point.

But still have this message read and write cache are currently down on this storage center.

Unfortunately the system is not Dell Support any more!

Hi Diego López,

I doubt we have any SSD within the storage controller or any attached enclosure , does that make sense ?

Kind regards,

Mo

I have seen this more than once and support was able to enable it again from command line every time. Never needed to replace the battery module neither was seen a error message on the summary page.

Hi Mo,

Did you manage to resolve the issue? When you had the issue for the first time, did you reseat the controller with battery out? I had the same issue and after reseating the controller, I had no more errors.

You could try.

And you can call Dell out of warranty support. They will help you.

Please tell how you did this. i have been dealing with this issue for over a year. i have gone through 4 sets of batteries they will work for a few days then fail with the cache board battery requires replacement. once they made it a week and these are new batteries that i am using. when i saw your post i got so excited that maybe you hold answer to this issue.
