HDD compatibility with SCV2020

Greetings! Recently a customer of ours purchased 9 new 1.2 TB Dell Branded SAS 10RPM HDDs DP/N:0WXPCX (Manufacturer P/N: ST1200MM0088). We where contracted to install and configure them to expand his SCV2020 storage capacity. Unfortunatelly, and despite the fact that the drives were acquired from a dell partner, the storage does not recognize them as such, showing the message "Not a dell branded drive". May this be a drive firmware issue?

Hello,

To purchase replacement drives you need to contact Sales and specify you are purchasing disk for your Compellent SCv2020 storage system.

They will load the correct firmware prior to shipping. I don't know any other place you can purchase Compellent drives.

This KB article #000117921 will show replacement steps:

If you have concerns we could get a support bundle for review.

MayorMike82,

Likely the issue is that the drives don't have Compellent firmware on them.

MD3, ME4, EQL, & Compellent can use the same drive model numbers,  but each have there own firmware. That firmware requires the drive be used on those devices.

Let me know if this helps.

We have the same issue with or SCv2020.

13x ST2000NM0045 (DELL RN7R5-Compellent) drives and after 5.7 years the first one died. The problem is that these hard drives are no longer available as new.

Which alternative hard drives can now be used? A normal ST2000NM0045 (e.g. Seagate Exos 2TB) wont work... it will be show as "External Drive".

Hello @Knie1988,

Yes, I am afraid not all disks are compatible as you will need the disks to have a specific firmware for the SCV2020.

Unfortunately we do not have the tool for recommendation for storage systems. It is recommended to contact the sales department or any available Dell partner in your region for official recommendation.

Regards.

From the DPN 0WXPCX, it is obviously the disk is for powerEdge server instead of storage.

DELL SC 1.2TB ST1200MM0088 DPN is 0RWV5D.

Greetings, we are facing a similar issue with our SCv2020

We want to replace a faulty disk but it shows as external disk, how can we check if the new disk is compatible with the storage and how can we bypass this issue

Thanks in advance
