Hello,

Yes, it is possible to reset the admin credentials on the Dell EMC Storage Manager (DSM) Virtual Appliance, but the process depends on the version and configuration. Since you're running DSMBuild 20.1.1.716, which corresponds to DSM 2020 R1, here are your options:

Option 1: Use EM Local Admin Credentials via Unisphere

If you're locked out of the DSM web interface, but still have access to the Unisphere for SC Series or the DSM VA console, you may be prompted to log in using EM Local Admin credentials. These are different from Windows or domain credentials.

  • Try logging in with:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: (your previously set password)

If this fails and you cannot recover the password, proceed to the next option.

Option 2: Reset via DSM VA Console (if accessible)

  1. Open the VM console of the DSM Virtual Appliance from your hypervisor (vSphere, Hyper-V, etc.).
  2. Log in using the console credentials:
    • Username: config
    • Password: dell (default, unless changed)
  3. From the console menu, navigate to Reset Admin Password or similar option.
  4. Follow the prompts to reset the web UI admin password.

If it is still not resolved I would recommend contacting Support directly and open a service case for an engineer to work directly with you. They may need to validate you are owner when working with private information like password resets. The forum is not set up for that type of direct engagement.
