5.5.6 firmware on Series 30?

We are considering upgrading our Series 30 5.5.2 firmware with 5.5.6 in order to fix stuck raid scrubs. We are bit nervous because the interim 5.5.3 we need to go to first also upgrades all the enclosures and power modules.

I am curious if anyone has any experience with 5.5.3 and 5.5.6.

Thanks!

Hi JediJeff,

I support a single series 30 dual controller Compellent.  About a month ago we upgraded from 5.? (something earlier than 5.5) to 5.5.4.  The upgrade was a two stage process... meaning the firmware was basically upgraded twice, once from the original version to some interim level, and from there to 5.5.4.  While I know this because I watched the screen, the overall upgrade was seemless.

However, one part of the upgrade was not seemless.  Apparently there is a drive firmware update available.  That update is deferable, however applying the update requires system downtime.  We ran the 5.5.4 update, and did not apply the disk firmware updates until a month later.  I talked it over with Co-Pilot support, they seemed fine with this.

You may want to ask Co-Pilot support if you'll have a disk firmware upgrade as well, and then you'll want to carefully consider whether or not to apply it since that particular piece is both deferable, and service affecting.

Good luck!
