Windows Native MPIO in 2008 r2 server

Hello,

I have XIV host attachment kit and Power path on couple of server when we do any patch upgrades or OE upgrades the EMC and IBM MPIO quarrels for the disk and servers crashes so we wanted to test native MPIO in 2008R2 server. I presented a test 1GB lun from CX4 array and scaned the disk the paths are okie but i couldn't initialize the disk for some reason any thoughts or help ?

No at one point of time only one Failover software can be installed on the host end. Can be either MPIO or Powerpath.

My first thought is that the host-based fail-over management is not properly configured.

Can you verify if the LUN is trespassed or not?  If it is and it resolves your issue, then please revisit the fail-over configuration.  You can review the Windows Host Connectivity Guide on Powerlink for assistance with native MPIO.  For instance, it will make note of what policies are supported, emphasizes that ALUA (fail-over mode of 4) is required, etc.

The could be solution to this that you will have to enable ALUA (failover mode 4) for the host, or deconfigure MPIO and then install PowerPath to manage the paths.

Native MPIO requires ALUA to be configured for the host initiators (Failover mode 4).  Please check the failover mode i hope it is not set to 1 as it needs to be set as 4.

Thanks for the reply. But if i enable the MPIO on windows is powerpath to be installed mandatory ? or can i get away without powerpath.
