Initialize or Discover AX4
Hello, sorry for the elementary question but I am on a customer site with an AX4 that was once configured and hasn't been used in at least 2 years so they want me to configure it for them. So I said "not a problem", but for the life of me I can't get the Unisphere Initialization tool to even discover the array. I have absolutely no idea what IP information it is currently configured with. The MGMT ports on the SP's are plugged in to the same switch with switchport access set to the same vlans; however, I don't even know what the IP configuration previously was.
I believe I see some sort of console port on the back, but whatever cable is used for that I'm sure they lost it years ago.
If anybody has any great tips to at least help me discover this thing I would greatly appreciate it!

Glen,
Thanks for the help. I was able to run a crossover cable to the mgmt ports and sniff out the previously configured IP's. Clumsy at best, but it works!

There is a micro-DB-9 to DB-9 cable that connects to the Service Serial port on the back on the SP module - it is the top connector - the bottom connector is for the battery backup cable.
Part number for the cable to connect from the SP Service Port to a laptop (null modem) is 038-003-084 - this is the same cable used on the CX3 and VNX. This can be used to connect to a laptop. Connection type from the host to the serial port will be a "Connect directly to another computer" and is the same procedure that you use for CX and VNX. This allows you to get into the SP and Run NaviExpress or Navisphere (which ever is installed) and change or discover what the IP addresses are set for the Management Ports. The Server Utility will not work once the IP addresses have been changed on the Management Ports.
If you are a Partner you can use Support Solution emc234675 or run the Procedure Generator for CLARiiON or VNX and select the procedure for connecting using the serial port.
