Event Number : 712d810a
Hello All,
One of my customer's tried to do a pool expansion and he experienced the following error.
Severity : Error
Time Stamp : 04/29/13 10:13:49 (GMT)
Description : The attempted creation or expansion of a pool or pool LUN was not allowed because it would have left the array operating over its Safe Operating Capacity (0x712d810a)
Event Number : 712d810a
Host : clar0087B
Storage Array : CKM00110700087 SP N/A
Device : N/A
The Flare code running in their CX4-120 is 04.30.000.5.525
Given the code I believe that the Primus article ID: emc266587 is not the issue on hand. Could someone please direct me on which direction I should proceed to resolve this issue ?
Regards,
Naleendra

Yes that is provided that the EPC Enabler is installed. Is it?

Actually that EMC Knowledgebase article leads to emc263403 which states that applicable arrays and flare are:
Product: CLARiiON CX4 Series
EMC Firmware: FLARE Release 28
EMC Firmware: FLARE Release 29
EMC Firmware: FLARE Release 30

No the point is that the code in the box shouldn't trigger this alert. Refer attached screenshot.

Not sure where you got that fix statement. This article is a support-only article. Are you a partner? If so, there are other avenues to help you with this issue - the problem will require a support engagement.
The Fix statement specifically states to check another article, emc263403.

PS. you should not be posting support-only articles in this forum.

Apologies for the late response Tim. Yes, EPC enabler is not installed. And actions are afoot to schedule to install it - meet pre-requisties, CCA, etc, etc, will update once the action is carried out. Thanks for your concern - much appreciated.
And Glen, yes, we are working through support on this issue. With all due respect Glen, when there is an issue our first concern is to find out what causes this issue - not whether as a partner we are treading on grounds set aside for EMC Support. We as the local support personnel owe it to our customers when they get in touch with us, when they have an issue. Once we know what is the issue, we will engage the proper channels, as we are doing now. The article was stumbled upon while searching for the error code - hence it is freely available for anyone who searches.

The EPC enabler was installed through support, and that has resolved the issue. Thanks Tim.

For whatever reason, I can't find KB article emc263403 if I search on the KB, though I have an account.
Was this removed?
I'm having the same issue with our CX-4, running 4.30....522.
I have no idea what EPC Enabler is however. Never heard of it.

For this error code and KB#, you will need to open an SR on this and they can help you get the answers you need.

Okay thanks. We actually bought this through Dell who divorced EMC a few years back, but they say I should still be able to access those things on EMC's site. I created an SR.
It's odd, I have access here, and to documentation and white papers, but not the KB, even though our CX-4 is in fact registered with EMC.
In the meantime, I won't be making pools anymore but raid groups. We don't really need the thin provisioning anyway. But there's nothing much I can do with the 3 existing pools.
