One of the Dual Inline Memory Module has faulted. (DIMM 7) You would need DIMM replacement.

The array fault LED will be off and it won't show any hardware fault.

I would request you to open a Service Request with SP Collects attached for DIMM replacement.

Can you paste the exact alert/error here?

CDATA[SPA is faulted. Fault Code: 16. FRU: DIMM 7 - Part Number: UNAVAILABLE
should be replaced. Please call your service provider.

I would suggest engaging the support and providing the logs. This may require DIMM replacement and this can be confirmed by log analysis only.

1. Those are:

71324001 SMBus read failed for device Local SPD DIMM X

Refer Knowlede Base Article: emc222703

To my knowledge that it can be ignored on CX4-120 & CX4-240 only. Not sure of CX3 Series.

2. Agreed.

thanks to all

thats what i wanted to hear, this is not my case this is a cx3-80

i checked log file before clearing its contents.

we have email alert configured,

if error still there am i going receiving the alert again, even clearing logs. ?

i can understand that old spcollect file will continue having this error.

but pourpose of clearing actual log files is avoid false alert.

so memory is working not remove like Harddisk, is just a proactive alert isn´t it?

In CX3-80 8 x 1 Gig DIMM might need to be replaced. Yes, you might receive the alert again.

Yes, it will have it. I understand but in case of Bugcheck or other random errors few events are helpful to determine the cause and provide the fix for engineering.

It depends, SP Collects analysis will give the clearity. From this alert, I believe you will need a replacement.

Two extra points:

1. on some of the small CX3 and CX4 arrays, there are some false messages about the DIMMs - can't remember the exact error code, but it involved the CX3-20 and CX4-120 and CX4-240  if I remember correctly. This was fixed in the latest flare for those models. When the SP is rebooted, you will see these errors. There are other times that the DIMM errors wil report other than a reboot. When accessing the DIMM and an error occurs, the ECC fixes the error and reports the failure.

2. I would recommend against clearing the SP logs each week. The logs provide engineering with historical data in the case of a persistent problem - the longer the data in the logs, the better the chance of finding random errors or patterns for certain errors.

Update: (thanks Ankit) point number 1 only applies to CX4-120 and CX4-240 - see Support Solution emc222703
