Clariion CX700, How to replace a faulty system disk ?
Hello,
We have an old CX700 disk array, which is today unsupported, and we would re-use it to store non critical data.
I just discovered that there is one of the 5 first disks, the ones where the "Array software" is located.
As I'm a newbie on EMC usage and we have not an EMC support I would know if someone can say me how to proceed for replacing this faulty disk ?
Note that we have a lot of unused disks in the enclosures, also I can easily pick one of them to replace the faulty.
Can I just unplug it and replace it by another one (physically) ?
Is it another and safer way to proceed ? Maybe setting a hot spare and forcing this hot spare to replace the faulty disk in the Raid 5 group ?
Any help will be appreciated.
Regards

If you dont have any user LUNs created on these vault drives (first five disks), you can simply pull out the faulty drive and insert new one.
I would recommend only replacing with a new drive.

As Vipin V.K mentioned, if no user LUNs is bound on the Vault Drives, you can directly replace the Dsk 0.0.3.
For more information on Vault Drives & Vaulting Operations: https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-16041
You may set up a hot spare if you have a user data on Vault Drive(s). If user data/LUN is bound on the vault drives and one of the Vault Drive gets faulted it will invoke the hot spare, otherwise there is no use of hot spare as Vault Disks has a mirrored replationship by design.

Thank you to you and Vipin V.K. As mentionned just replacing the faulty disk by another one solved the issue.
CX is now fully operational.
